Judge extends order

BEAUMONT - A federal judge Wednesday extended a temporary protective order by U. S. District Judge Howell Cobb. Cobb, after a lengthy in-chambers conference with attorneys, on Wednesday extended the protective order or two years.
Only two defense witnesses of the scheduled 17 testified Wednesday. First to take the stand was Hardin County Sheriff H. R. "Mike" Holzapfel, a long-time friend of Wade.
Holzapfel testified that on Oct. 14, 1987, a warrant officer was sent to a Harden County ranch to serve papers on a James Watson. While there, Holzapfel said, the Officer became suspicious of a van stuck in the mud in the middle of a small dirt road on the ranch when he smelled what he believed to be odors similar to those emitted during the manufacture of methamphetamine, commonly known as "speed."
The office, Holzapfel said, called in his suspicions to the sheriff's department and other officers, including the sheriff, responded to the scene.
Watson, the sheriff said, signed a consent to search and officers found inside a mobile home on the ranch a complete speed laboratory....................
