U. S. Judge refused test for sobriety

A visiting federal judge, arrested recently in Denison for DWI and speeding violations, refused to submit to a routine sobriety test here, officials confirmed Wednesday.
    Judge Howell Cobb of Beaumont was arrested Sept. 31 by a Department of Public Safety trooper in Denison, according to DPS Sgt. Charles Carey.
    Cobb is presiding over the Orange County sheriff's trial which was transferred here from Beaumont.
    Cobb has been charged with driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to a worker in the Justice of the Peace office at Denison.
    Carey said Trooper Y. Q. Tillery filed the speeding charges against Cobb and has presented a DWI case against the judge to the Grayson County Attorney's office.
