More than 100 citizens turned out at the Vidor VFW Saturday night for a Chinese Auction and dance to benefit the Wade family.
Neva Wade and her sons Byron and Brett found that many Vidorians do not support the action taken by Orange County Attorney Steve Howard in removing her husband Sheriff James Wade from Office without benefit of a trial and thus halting his county salary as he awaits trial on federal charges.  Citizens, with the organizational help of Louise Miller, donated items ranging from cakes to furniture to be auctioned, with proceeds going to the Wade family
"We raised $2,801," Frank D. Miller, Sr. said.  "It was a tremendous success."
Carlo Ballard Donated his talents as auctioneer and Bruce Wilson, of Elite sounds, Provided disc jockey services for the dance.  Many bidders, in an obvious supportive effort bought times which they immediately gave away.
"The people who participated in this even are just wonderful, wonderful folks," Mrs. Wade said.  "They are the "friends indeed" that Vic Feazell spoke about, the friends that have stuck with us throughout this whole thing.
"until such time as they are better paid, Lord bless them.  My boys and I thank them from the bottom of our hearts."
Feazell, the McClennan County attorney, was a surprise speaker at the auction, detailing similarities between his own troubles with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Wade's Accusers, Feazell was indicated on bribery, mail fraud and conspiracy charges after he said both agencies were mishandling the alleged confessions of accused serial killer Henry Lee Lucas.
"Vic is very supportive because he's been there," Mrs. Wade said.  "he cares about people and he believes in James, so what he had to say to the people there was especially important.
    "Vic inspired us all."
Items left over from the auction, along with a number of new donations, will be offered at a "garage sale" scheduled for Saturday at the Vidor Community Center.  Proceeds from this sale will also go to help the Wade family meet expenses.
