Don Hall, former law partner of Vic Feazell, told an Austin jury Monday morning he had kept Photostat copies of every payment he made to the defendant for preferential treatment on a number of cases.
Hall testified he would make copies of the envelopes he had but did not give the originals to Feazell.
Ask why, by Jack Frels, Hall said, “He didn’t want any records, he wanted the cash with a rubber band around it.”
Hall, a former McLennan County DA, told the jury he kept the envelope copies in his desk drawer behind the alphabet letter “B”.
Hall testified he swore Vic into office the first time he was elected but he was not asked to for his second term.
Appearing as a witness for the government, Hall testified, about the DWI cases he had handled for Waco attorney Dickie Clark, an earlier witness for the government.
Hall testified concerning the Henry Mendez and Ilene Catherine Givens case. Both were DWIs which were later dismissed.
Prior to the dismissal, Hall said, he discussed the Mendez case with Feazell. “He told me he wanted to share in our fees.”
“What was your reaction?” Frels asked. “I was astounded.”
“He wanted 1/3 of our fee,” Hall testified.
Asked how Dick Kettler responded, “He was astounded, you could have knocked him over with a feather,” Hall replied.
Hall said they paid Feazell $450 for their first payment to the DA on the Mendez case.
Prior to Hall taking the stand, Greg Rampton, FBI agent, testified concerning a consenting tape which was entered into evidence. Contents of the tape were not revealed.
