Walker fighting for freedom

To the Editor:

To the citizens of Ottawa County: With the upcoming elections on a lot of peoples minds, and with the everyday problems and decisions that most people face, I certainly understand that concern for another person in their time of need might become secondary.  The person I’m referring to is Sheriff James Ed Walker.  As everyone knows, Sheriff Walker is currently fighting for his freedom and to clear his name of what I believe to be politically motivated accusations lodged against him by people attempting to cover up their own criminal wrong doings.  I’d like to quote Ed’s attorney from an article in Tuesday’s News Record:  “By the time this is over, everyone will know about corruption in Ottawa County.”  It is my shared belief that the persecution occurring now towards Sheriff Walker began when he presented evidence and witnesses in the Guy Krisher Murder investigation.  Did Ed step on the wrong toes, or perhaps Sheriff Walker opened a county closet full of skeletons.
Is it coincidence that the District Attorneys Investigator threw his hat into the Sheriff’s race after making allegations of wrongdoing against Ed Walker?  Maybe someone figured that if re-elected for another four year term, Sheriff Walker would continue digging until he came up with the evidence needed to prosecute the guy Krisher and other unsolved murder cases, Ed Walker clearance rate on overall crime in Ottawa County during his administration is (45% or better).
The clearance rate during the previous sheriffs’ administration was less than (14%).  These numbers speak for themselves.  Sheriff Walker is an honest, diligent, and tenacious law enforcement officer who out of concern and compassion for victims and their families wouldn’t kowtow to the powers that be, and subsequently was run out of office.  His character questioned and his freedom threatens.  I for one don’t believe one of these accusations.  It saddens me that not one of the current or former candidates for public office has had the decency to come out and say that Sheriff Walker like anyone else accused of a crime, is still like all Americans, innocent until proven otherwise for those of who support Sheriff Walker, keep your faith up.  The truth will prevail, Ed Walker is not guilty of these politically motivated charges, and will be exonerated at trials end.  I’m sure Ed would appreciate his fellow citizens support during this time of injustice.  Show your support through letters to your local newspaper and/or a yellow ribbon around a tree on your property.

Sincerely,

Rick
