Mother, son get probation in gambling convictions

    TULSA, Okla. (AP) – A mother and son who were convicted in an illegal gambling operation each received five years probation after a judge found they had acted under treat of physical injury.
    U.S. District Judge Terry C. Kern also ordered Dorothy O’Brien, 50, to pay a $5,000 fine.  Her son, William, 25, must pay $2,000 in fines, according to court documents unsealed Friday.
    The two were convicted along with Mrs. O’Brien’s husband, Michael, in June on charges of conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business at their club in West Seneca.
    The O’Briens were among several club owners who have either pleaded guilty or entered into plea-bargain agreements in connection with a federal sting, which also snared suspended Ottawa County Sheriff James Ed Walker.
